FAQ- (Frequently Asked Questions)

Are You Taking Out Fishing Charters Full Time?

Scales and Tales Native Guided Tours is a full time US Coast Gaurd Licensed and Insured guide business on Charlotte Harbor.  Fishing charters is ALL that your guide does for a living.  You're not fishing with a part timer.  You're not fishing with a guy who just moved here and got his license.  You're fishing with an eager, passionate Florida native that grew up navigating these waters.

Do I Need To Purchase A Fishing License?

You don't need to purchase a fishing license.  Scales and Tales purchases a yearly saltwater license through the state of Florida that covers your entire party on our fishing charters.

How Many People Can I Bring On My Fishing Charter?

Two or three anglers seems to be the most comfortable number of passengers on an inshore backbay fishing trip.  Four anglers starts to get a bit tight on any inshore fishing trip, however a fourth angler can be added for an additional cost of $50 per 4 Hours.

Am I Guaranteed To Catch Fish?

We have never had one of our fishing charters get "skunked" so yes you are.  We set out fishing Charlotte Harbor on a daily basis with confidence.  If your party doesn't catch any fish it will be a first and your trip is paid for.

What Should I Bring?

These are "all inclusive" fishing charters.  Well kept fishing equiptment, fishing licenses, live bait, and iced refreshments (waters/Gatorades) are part of the package.  Just bring yourself and your personal items such as hats, sunglasses, and whatever you'd like to snack on while you're on the water.  Small coolers are welcome aboard.

Is Live Bait Included?

Absolutely!  On our fishing charters from the months of March through December live bait is caught by your guide prior to your fishing charter.  During the winter months (or when our water temperature is consistantly below 70 degrees) we'll generally fish with live shrimp on Charlotte Harbor.   Regardless what month of the year it is.  We start our fishing trips with live bait in the well.

Can I Bring Home Fish To Eat?

You sure can.  Legal/Harvestable species can be put on ice under your request and filleted for your party at the end of your trip.  A good portion of our inshore fishing charters on Charlotte Harbor are for the sport and just plain fun, but we'll gladly send you home with enough for the dinner table as well.

What Forms Of Payment Do You Accept?

Fishing charters can be payed for with cash, check, PayPal, and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express).

How Can I Secure My Date To Fish?

Fishing charter dates can be booked up to one year in advance.  A $100 deposit by credit/debit card can be made over the phone, or a check can be sent on the day that you book your trip.  Deposits are refundable for bad weather or if your trip is cancelled at least 30 days in advance.  This gives me a chance to rebook your date.

What Kind Of Fish Will I Catch?

One of the great parts about fishing on Charlotte Harbor is that the limits are endless!  While we may be targetting a few primary species, you just never know what you have the potential to hook up to.  Our most commonly targetted and caught species include Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, Speckled Trout, Snapper, Cobia, Tripletail, Black Drum, Spanish Mackerel, and Sharks (large and small).  We do target specific species under request and as the seasons change so does our local fishery.  If you're curious please ask!
